There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is banned. Eight casinos are established in a generally small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent location, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of controls constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; still, financial sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are for all intents and purposes needed to pass, there are ways around this, as is correct of most border crossings.

The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat gambling hall, contains one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty slots and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred one armed bandits and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel compound that highlights many luxuries accompanying the casino, which offers ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machines and 88 tables.
