There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the border from neighboring Thailand, in which casino betting is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are based in a generally small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime spot, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing income gained from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; however, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and though visas are supposedly necessary to pass, there are means around this, as is real of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship gambling den, features one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. There are one hundred and fifty slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the familiar table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational resort and hotel building that contains a number of comforts in addition to the gambling den, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slots and eighty eight table games.
